The JAC is an independent commission that recommends candidates for judicial office in the courts and tribunals of England and Wales and for some tribunals whose jurisdiction extends to Scotland or Northern Ireland.
We are responsible for recommending candidates to all judicial offices listed in Schedule 14 to the Constitutional Reform Act 2005 as well as to the offices of the Lord Chief Justice, Master of the Rolls, President of the Queen's Bench Division, President of the Family Division, Chancellor of the High Court, Lords Justices of Appeal and High Court Judges.
The full list includes fee paid and salaried roles as well as positions not requiring a legal background.

Selection for judicial posts in Scotland is primarily the responsibility of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland and for those in Northern Ireland of The Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission. The JAC does not select Magistrates.
