Thinking of applying in the future? Get experience by being a mock candidate.
Applying for a judicial position is a competitive business, and so the JAC always encourages prospective candidates to gain as much knowledge and experience of our processes as possible. Even if you are not planning on making an application immediately, it's never too soon to start your preparation. Being a mock candidate is an extremely valuable opportunity for anyone considering applying for a judicial post in the future.
As part of the quality assurance process, the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) pilots the qualifying tests and role play scenarios for specific selection exercises. We also use mock interviews as part of the training of our selection panels. The mock selection activities are usually held at Steel House, 11 Tothill Street, London, SW1H 9LH.
If you would like your details to be held for this purpose, please complete the Dry Run Application Form. This will enable us to select a range of appropriate individuals for specific exercises and ensure that you will be invited only to the exercises which match your experience and interests.
Please note that there are a limited number of qualifying tests each year (perhaps 10) and we require a diverse range of 20 to 30 individuals for each exercise.
There is no guarantee that you will contacted to take part in a dry-run, but your details will be held on a database and considered when opportunities arise.
You should inform us if you wish for your name to be removed from the database at any time. It will automatically be removed after two years regardless of whether or not you have taken part in a dry-run.
When you have completed the Application Form - please email it to us
Please note that by participating in a dry-run, you will disqualify yourself from applying to the selection exercise for which you have been a mock candidate. You will, of course, be free to apply for other positions running concurrently or afterwards.
