The War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Chamber hears appeals relating to the old War Pensions Scheme, which ran from 1918 to 2005 and the new Armed Forces Compensation Scheme, which started in 2005.  These appeals are from ex-service men and women who have had their claims for a war pension or compensation for physical or psychological injuries rejected by the Secretary of State for Defence. The tribunal's jurisdiction covers England and Wales and it is independent from the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency.

The Chamber President provides the jurisdictional lead and management for the Chamber as well as contributing to the senior judicial management team supporting the Senior President on wider issues.  In addition to giving direction as to the practice and procedure of the Chamber, the President will be responsible for the career development of judges and members within the Chamber as well as maintaining and building high standards of case management and decision making whilst ensuring the Chamber is run efficiently and effectively within its resources.  The President is also automatically a judge of the Upper Tribunal.

The JAC welcomes applications from Upper Tribunal Judges and solicitors, barristers and advocates with at least seven years' post qualification experience (PQE), and from those with other relevant legal expertise.
