Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist looking for a new challenge?
The Tribunals Service performs a vital role in the delivery of justice through a variety of expert tribunals. To do that successfully it uses the expertise of professionals from outside the legal community.
If you are a Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and have been a registered and practising Consultant Psychiatrist for at least three years, you could be eligible to become a salaried member of the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber (Mental Health) of the First-tier Tribunal.
The work of the Tribunal is varied and challenging - determining appeals against decisions of government departments relating to the needs of patients, professionals, service providers and users, children, parents and the public.
This is an opportunity to use your professional experience as well as your other life skills to consider evidence, both oral and written, and then, together with a judge, find facts based upon that evidence to make decisions which will profoundly affect the lives of those involved.
Training will be given in the relevant legal principles and in judicial skills.
