The independent Judicial Appointments Commission is seeking people with knowledge of disability issues to sit as members in the Social Entitlement Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal. You do not need to be legally qualified. Instead, you will be experienced in dealing with the physical or mental needs of disabled people, either because you deal with them in a professional or voluntary capacity, or because you are yourself disabled.
In conjunction with the other Tribunal members, you will be deciding appeals by considering facts, applying the relevant law to them and contributing to the provision of a reasoned written judgement by the Tribunal Judge. You will normally be offered a minimum of 15 working days per year.
