The JAC has been asked to select up to 15 candidates for the High Court; up to 2 in the Chancery Division, up to 3 in the Family Division and up to 10 in the Queen's Bench Division: 2 in the Technology and Construction Court, 3 in the Commercial Court, 1 in Defamation and 4 generalists.

You do not have to be a Deputy High Court Judge or a Queen's Counsel to apply for these vacancies. It is advisable to start thinking about your referees. Information about references can be found on the JAC website. References form an important part of the process, providing the sift panel with additional information to assess a candidates suitability for the post. Referees are required to provide specific examples against the competencies in the same way candidates are in their self assessment.

You may wish to talk to your referees now. To help you and your referees start to prepare, we have created an example of the High Court reference form. An online version of this form will be sent to all referees on 26 November. However, your referees may wish to start preparing their examples in advance, which they can copy and paste into the online form.
